The narrow gage line between the town "Cranzahl" and the spa "Oberwiesenthal" was opened end at the 20. July in 1897. The spa "Oberwiesenthal" lies at the bottom of the highest mount of Saxony, the "Fichtelberg" with an altitude of 1214 m. The town "Cranzahl" is connected since 1872 with the line from "Chemnitz" via "Annaberg", with the famous church of "St. Annen" to "Chomutov" in Chech Republic. The line goes out of "Cranzahl" through the beautiful valley "Sehmatal" and alongside a slop. After passing the village "Neudorf" with typical traditional houses the train reaches at the stop "Vierenstraße" where the forest of the mountain region bordered. From this point started a long and steep ascent (1:35) for the stop "Kretscham-Rotensehma". After the stop the train drives through a narrow bend (radius 100m ) and hill up (1:30 ) and comes at kilometer 9,4 to the watershed between two small rivers ( Sehma and Pöhlbach ). The next point is the station "Hammerunterwiesenthal" with the remainders of big freight yard. In former years there were only for the lime and road stone plant daily more than 30 freight cars . Along the border with the Chech Republic the train reaches the "Unterwiesenthal" and winds trough the valley "Pöhlbachtal" to the railhead in "Oberwiesenthal". Shortly before the railhead the train goes over an imposing viaduct. The history of the railroad is close engaged with the mountain "Fichtelberg". The Norwegian engineer Ohlens, employed by the construction company, introduced the skier in the region. Today the railroad attracts tourists and winter sportsmen and brings them to the spa "Oberwiesenthal" and mountain "Fichtelberg".
