Saxony's traffic connection.
There are roads, highways, airlines and railroads to connect Saxony
with the other parts of Germany and the wide world. In the last years a lot of work has been done to extend and improve all the facilities. |
The highway connection:
Highway A 4
Crosses Germany from East to West and provides the connection with Poland.
Highway A 72
Connects Sayxony with the federal state Bavaria and the rest of Southern Germany.
The Highway 'A 72' runs into the highway 'A 9' and goes to 'München', the capital of Bavaria.
Highway A 9
Provides the connection with Germany's biggest harbour in 'Hamburg'.
Currently, no highway connection exists to 'Leipzig' from Westsaxoyny. From there highway 'A 9' is available.
This road will be widened to a highway in the next few years.
Otherwise using a part of the 'A 4' to the crossing with the ' A 9' is possible.
Airports
In the region there are three airports available.

|
Airport Leipzig
The international airport 'Leipzig' is the door of the market area 'Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Thüringen' with their high expectation for upswing in economic activity. The airport has a direct drive to the highway-network. Investment in the connection of the 'Intercity Railroad-High speed-network' provides a better service and make a bigger position in market accessible.
Now, a new runway with its remarkable length of 3.6 km, makes the unlimited inter-continental air connection by the biggest airplanes possible.
At the moment, a new service building is in construction. After its opening a comprehensive service for tourists, businessmen and cargo will be offered.

Airport Dresden
The airport 'Dresden' is an closily accessible airport. It has a direct highway connection with the highway 'A 4'.
To get to the city-center of 'Dresden' a frequently offered bus-service is available.
The new airport-terminal, which will go in service in 2000, includes an underground airport-station where a rail-shuttle service provides the connection with the German railway network via the main-station in 'Dresden'.

Airport Altenburg
The airport 'Altenburg', a former military airport, is a smaller one with regional importance.
Nevertheless the airport has all the modern technical and meteorological equipment which guarantee a high safety level.
All the destinations in the European airspace can be reached by the runway with a length over 2 km.
The modern terminal and the new tower make even the service for such large airplanes as the 'Airbus320' or the 'Boeing737' possible 24 hours a day.
